Eric is a trained historian who devotes himself to understanding the nuances of Kyoto's history and culture. As a seasoned guide and former academic, Eric has lived in Kyoto for over 12 years. He spent a number of years as a PhD candidate at Doshisha University, investigating Native American trans-Pacific history, before deciding to pursue work in tourism full-time. He got his Master's degree from Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto. He has taught English and social studies at nearly every level, from kindergarten to graduate school.
